I Found a TreasureI grew up in a house full of books written by Watchman Nee and Witness Lee. As a 10-year-old I remember my dad pointing to a set of hardbound green books that looked unapproachably encyclopedic to me, and saying that one-day I could read them and really find something. It sounded intriguing, but at the time I was more interested in playing. In junior high I began to question all the things about God that I had grown up with. How was I to know that He was real? And why was everyone so interested in meeting together and reading the Bible all the time? I was eventually led to come to God Himself, and all my doubts and questions were blessedly cleared up. By His mercy and grace I continued to grow by reading the Bible, going to young people's retreats, and having a good companion. When I was fourteen I went out to California to hear Witness Lee speak. It was a very enlightening and enlivening time, and I realized that if this was what those green books on my parents' shelf contained, then it was time to get into them! Not knowing where I should start, I decided to be simple and begin at the beginning: Genesis. As I got into the first of three volumes on Genesis, I was awestruck! My initial concern that perhaps these books were over my head was soon dispelled. I started to realize that I had discovered a treasure! I remember late nights in my room getting into a message and joyfully praising and thanking the Lord for who He was and what He had called me to enter into. What had once been a simple Sunday school lesson on God's creation, was now becoming to me a storehouse of pictures that conveyed God's rich life and His eternal plan. Not only was I seeing these things, but I was being drawn to pray over them and enter into a rich and sweet relationship with Christ! I have never ceased being thankful that He provided a way for me to get into these books, the Life-studies, from such a young age. I consider them a precious gift from the Lord, after completing the Genesis Life-studies, I continued on to many others, and throughout high school and college they have brought me nothing but life. Time and time again I have been rescued out of my apathy and lukewarmness into a realm where all I see and want is Christ! Tamara English | Back to List |
